Palani Temple Kumbabishekam

After 16 years Palani Kumabishekam 2023 is on January 27th between 8 am to 9:30 am.

Kumbabishekams are done to renovate the entire temple and to recharge the power of the temple through mantras and abhishekams as found in the ‘Aagamas’.Palani temples including the hill temple have undergone several Kumbabishekam starting from the days of Cheraman peruman’s renovation. During the period of Nayaka Kings, Sivachariyars were appointed by Ramappar.

In 1899 Sthupi was renovated. An ashtabhandhanam was made in 1909 followed by Thiru Aavinan Kudi Kumbabhishekam in 1910 ,1933 and 1936 witnessed the ashtabhandhanam and renovation of sthupi respectively. Rajagopuram had its turn in 1940.Golden Vimanam was completed in 1960. Again in 1968 Thiru Aavinan Kudi had undergone renovation. Ashtabhandhanam was made to golden vimanam in 1973. The last Kumbabishekam was done in year 2006.

People in lacs use to gather during these days to receive the sacred water abhisheka Theertham sprinkled all over them. It is considered to be ‘punniyam’ to have at least few drops of water over us.

History Of Palani

Palani is the most divine among all abodes of Lord Murugan Who is also known as Karthikeya in North India. This is the third Padai veedu of Lord Murugan in Tamilnadu. Palani is located in Dindugal district at a distance of 112Kms (70 miles) from Madurai and 152 Kms (95 miles) from Trichy. It is almost at an equal distance from Coimbatore as well. Palani is at the banks of Shanmuganadhi which is revered as a sacred river.

Palani Andavar temple, the well known name of Murugan, stands majestically at the top of the hill. The temple is visible from several kilometers away. The devotees become excited just at the sight of the gopuram itself and start feeling the presence of the Lord in their hearts.

Palani Hill temple is at about 500 ft height and has 693 steps to climb up. Old people and persons, who cannot go by walk, have the option to reach the temple by Rope car or winch. The hill was believed to be inhabited by many Siddha purushas and rishies. The length of Girivalam is 2.4 kms.. Palani Murugan temple attracts lacs of devotees from all over South India carrying Kavadis and offering abhishekams or tonsure.
