Tamil Nadu Budget 2023-24: Coimbatore Metro to Get Funds of Rs 9000 Crores

March 2023: The Tamil Nadu state government allocated funds for Coimbatore Metro in its budget on Monday. Finance Minister Paranivel Thiaga Rajan said the government plans to allocate about 900 billion rupees for the Coimbatore Metro project. The project will be implemented along Abhinasi Road and Satyamangalam Road. In 2019, Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (CMRL) conducted a feasibility study to implement a 144 km subway project. CMRL plans to operate five metro corridors in Coimbatore. With the implementation of these five corridors, the city’s economic and social activities will continue to increase. In addition, the state government has allocated his Rs 1 lakh for the 119 km Phase II of the Chennai Metro Project. The elevated corridor, the first section of the Coimbatore Metro from Poonamallee depot to Kodambakkam Powerhouse, is scheduled to start in December 2025.

Coimbatore Metro 

The Coimbatore Metro Project was officially unveiled at the General Assembly for the fiscal year 2017-2018. In February 2019, it was reported that he had been allotted one year to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project.

The Collectorlate Metro is connected to Valyum Palayan Piliv via the 2nd Corridor (14.13 km).
