5 March, 2023: A popular French multinational rolling stock manufacturer, Alstom has begun the production of lightweight Movia metro passenger trains for Indore & Bhopal metro rail projects, as per a company statement. According to the contract assigned to Alstom by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) in July 2022, the manufacturing company will create the design, manufacture, supply, test, install, and commission the 156 Movia Metro cars with nearly 15 years of maintenance. This Indore & Bhopal metro rail project will help 5.7 million people in both cities. Out of the 52 train sets of three-car configuration each, about 27 train sets will be made for Bhopal city and the remaining 25 train sets will be given to Indore. These train sets are capable of working at a speed of 80 km/hr across 31 km line in the city of Bhopal with total 30 stations. And in Indore there will be a 31.5 km line with around 29 metro stations.

Indore Metro Line

Indore metro route features four corridors for commuters to travel to many locations. At present, only line 3 is under construction; the rest are yet in the planning stage. The 4 planned corridor lines are as follows:

  • Line-1A: Sri Aurobindo Hospital – Collectorate office – Indore Bypass 1
  • Line-1B: Sri Aurobindo Hospital – Collectorate office – Regional Park (1B)
  • Line-2: Dewas Naka – Juni Indore – MHOW
  • Line 3: Yellow Line (Bhawarsala Square – Super Corridor 1)
  • Line-4: MR9 – Indore Railway Station – Indore Bypass 4

This Indore metro route consists of a 100–107 kilometre network with overlapping and branching lines. The final metro route is partitioned into 4 lines, out of which one line route is under construction. The rest models are proposed to the organizations and government.
