The project was shelved in 2017 due to high costs and poor passenger forecasts. This was inconsistent with the Indian government’s new Metro Rail policy. Additionally, the AP government has prioritized the Vijayawada Metro.
In December 2019, the AP State Government decided to review the updated/revised detailed project report of the 79.91 km Phase 1 project at an estimated cost of NOK 8,300 to be implemented under a public-private partnership model. We agreed to hire a new consultant. (PPP). AMRC has named Urban Mass Transit Company Limited (UMTC) the winner for preparing his new DPR for his Vizag Metro in March 2020.

Vizag Green Metro Concept
The Metro will catalyze a green revolution in the city. The environmentally friendly metro rail services of the Vizag Metro are being created and developed to ensure that the carbon footprint levels are nearly ‘Zero.’
Solar energy, rainwater collecting, sewage treatment, reuse, and environmentally friendly transportation are all covered under one roof. Greenery has been planned all along the track to make it more appealing.
The stations will be built to fulfil the Indian Green Building Council’s Platinum certification requirements.
Also, several energy conservation measures, such as the use of regenerative braking in trains to generate traction energy, which would result in lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the use of variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) drives for escalators and elevators, LED lights in station premises, and the use of energy-efficient equipment for the Environment Control System, are all examples.
Vizag Metro Facilities
The stations along the Vizag Metro route would be designed with cutting-edge technology and aesthetically pleasing exteriors and interiors. All stations would be well-connected to the surrounding communities. The stations would be designed to conventional regulations and meet NFPA 130 fire safety standards. Passengers would be able to move across the stations via escalators and lifts. CCTV cameras, X-ray machines for luggage scanning, human scanners, a fire safety system, station signage, and a public display and announcement system would all help assure passenger safety. All amenities would be supplied to make the stations commuter-friendly.
Vizag Metro Fare
The pricing system, prices, rules, and ticket kinds for the Vizag Metro have yet to be revealed. Closer to the start of commercial operations, the fare of Vizag Metro will be finalized.
The fare of Vizag Metro would be reasonable, considering the metro fare in other cities of India. It’d be easy to explore all the major points and key destinations of Vizag without breaking a bank.
Vizag Metro Timings
The timings for the Vizag Metro have yet to be revealed. Closer to the start of commercial operations, this will be finalized.
Vizag witnesses road congestion due to encroachment and unauthorised constructions. This can obstruct the free flow of traffic and increase the time it takes to cover the distance of travelling from one part of the city to another.
Vizag Metro would play a major role in easing traffic, as there’d be regular metro trains available for passengers throughout the day. You’d be able to reach your destination within a few minutes. Vizag Metro would be a boon for daily commuters.
Moreover, tourists would be able to explore the different tourist sites of Vizag via Vizag Metro. Not to mention, you’d feel completely safe travelling in Vizag Metro due to the various facilities provided.
