The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival 2023 kicks off today, and moviegoers are ready to make their voices heard on the red carpet. Like the Oscars, Cannes is the center of action for all kinds of movies. As Bollywood stars like Anushka Sharma gear up for their Cannes Film Festival debut, many are questioning the financial side of the lavish festival.
Similar to the 2023 Met Gala, ticket prices for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival are also a hot topic among netizens. The event will take place in Cannes from 16-27 May 2023, but the resort town of the Côte d’Azur has become a destination for all moviegoers.
As far as the cost goes, those with accreditation for the Cannes 2023, can access the online ticket office on the official website of Cannes Film Festival. However, these tickets range from $6,100 to $25,000 as per international media reports. Those who wish to attend Cannes free can reportedly go for open-air screenings at the Cinéma de la Plage every evening from 9:30 pm.
Do Cannes Winners Get Prize Money?
Over the years, many have wondered if Cannes Film Festival winners get any prize money or not. The answer may not be that direct. While Cannes is all about the glitz, glamour, name and fame, winners of some specific awards do tend to get some prize money as well.
According to The Sun, the reward for winning the Palme d’Or the Grand Prix is mainly exposure and prestige. However, during La Semaine de la Critique, there are some money rewards kept aside for films.
As per the 2018 report by The Sun (mentioned above), the Leica Cine Discovery Prize for Short Film awards £3,500 and the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star award gives £4,400 to the best actor or actress in their first film.
Apart from this, as per the publication, there is also an award given to a first time filmmaker to help distribute their movie in France – The Gan Foundation Award for Distribution gives £17,600 in return for a marketing strategy.
