The Delhi Metro, an integral part of the city’s public transportation system, connects various parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) efficiently and conveniently. To enhance passenger convenience, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced the option of purchasing metro tickets or tokens using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). This article aims to guide you through the simple steps to buy a Delhi Metro ticket/token using UPI at metro stations.

How to buy Delhi Metro tokens via ticket vending machines (TVM) using UPI

Step 1: Install UPI App Before proceeding, ensure you have a UPI-enabled mobile banking application installed on your smartphone. Popular UPI apps include Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, Paytm, and others. If you don’t have any UPI app installed, visit your app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) to download and set up the app.

Step 2: Add Your Bank Account Open the UPI app and follow the instructions to link your bank account to the app. You’ll need to provide necessary details, including your bank’s name, account number, and registered mobile number. The app may verify your account through an OTP (One-Time Password) sent to your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Load Money into Your UPI Wallet (Optional) Some UPI apps offer the option to load money into a UPI wallet associated with your bank account. If your chosen UPI app supports this feature, you can transfer funds from your bank account to the wallet. This step is optional but can make the payment process smoother and quicker.

Step 4: Visit the Delhi Metro Station Head to your nearest Delhi Metro station at the time of your journey. Locate the ticketing counters or ticket vending machines (TVMs) at the station concourse.

Step 5: Choose “QR Code” Payment Option At the ticketing counter or TVM, select the “QR Code” payment option. This choice will enable you to use the UPI app for payment.

Step 6: Generate UPI QR Code Once you select the “QR Code” option, a unique QR code will be generated on the ticket machine’s screen or handed to you by the ticketing staff.

Step 7: Scan the QR Code with UPI App Open your UPI app on your smartphone and choose the “Scan QR Code” option. Point your phone’s camera at the QR code displayed on the screen or provided by the ticketing staff.

Step 8: Enter Payment Amount The UPI app will recognize the QR code and prompt you to enter the payment amount for your Delhi Metro ticket or token. Enter the appropriate fare amount as per your destination and confirm the payment.

Step 9: Confirm Payment Review the payment details on the UPI app and confirm the transaction. You may need to enter your UPI PIN or authenticate the transaction through biometric verification, depending on your UPI app’s security settings.

Step 10: Collect Your Ticket/Token Once the payment is successful, the Delhi Metro ticket machine will dispense your ticket or token. Collect it and proceed to the entry gates for your hassle-free metro journey.
