The Dras War Memorial (also known as Vijaypas) is a war memorial built by the Indian Army to commemorate the brave soldiers who lost their lives during the Kargil War. The Kargil War was fought between India and Pakistan. It started on May 8, 1999 when Pakistani forces invaded the Indian side of the LOC (Line of Control). The battle lasted nearly two months, and on July 4, 1999, India won after an 11-hour battle. The then Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, declared the success of Operation Vijay (Kargil War) on 26 July. The Drath War Memorial has a memorial wall. It bears the names of Indian soldiers and officers who lost their lives in the Kargil War. A beautiful tribute to brave lost souls.
