In the 49th league match of the ongoing IPL cricket series at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on May 1, a new chapter was added to the history of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Chennai Super Kings faced off against the Punjab Kings led by Sam Curran.

In what turned out to be a thrilling encounter, the Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Chennai team, batting first, posted a competitive total of 162 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the end of their stipulated 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front, scoring 62 runs, while Rahane contributed 29 runs to the Chennai team total. Punjab spinners Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar were the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets each.

As Punjab began their chase, all eyes were on the debutant, Richard Gleeson, the fast bowler from England, who was making his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings. Gleeson replaced the star fast bowler Pathirana, who was sidelined due to injury. Gleeson debut, however, marked a significant milestone in IPL history. At the age of 36 years and 151 days, Richard Gleeson became the second oldest player to make his IPL debut in the last 10 years.

The last time a player made his IPL debut at such an age was in 2014 when Sikandar Raza debuted for Punjab at the age of 36 years and 342 days. Gleeson inclusion in the Chennai Super Kings lineup adds depth to their fast bowling department, and his experience could prove vital for the team as they progress in the tournament.

Despite the debutant efforts, Punjab Kings chased down the target of 163 runs with ease, winning the match by 6 wickets. However, Richard Gleeson achievement will be remembered, and his debut marks a significant moment in IPL history, showcasing that age is just a number in the world of cricket.
