In a spectacular display of batting prowess, Hyderabad set two world records as they outclassed Delhi in the 35th match of the IPL 2024 T20 cricket series. The match, held on April 20 at 7:30 PM in the capital Delhi, witnessed Hyderabad’s dominance as they scored 266/7 in 20 overs.

Winning the toss, Delhi opted to bowl first, hoping to restrict Hyderabad’s batting lineup. However, Hyderabad’s opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, had other plans. From the very first ball, they attacked the Delhi bowlers relentlessly.

Hyderabad’s innings got off to a blistering start, with the opening pair reaching 100 runs in just 5 overs, setting a new record for the fastest team to score 100 runs in IPL history. The previous record was held by Chennai, who achieved the milestone in 6 overs during the 2014 season.

Abhishek Sharma, with a quickfire 46 runs off 12 balls, and Travis Head, who scored a sensational 89 off 32 balls, laid the foundation for Hyderabad’s massive total. Their partnership of 131 runs in 6.2 overs propelled Hyderabad to a flying start.

Travis Head’s innings was particularly breathtaking, as he smashed 11 fours and 6 sixes, reaching his half-century in just 16 balls. However, after his dismissal, Hyderabad faced a brief setback, losing wickets in quick succession.

Despite losing a few wickets, Hyderabad continued to attack, reaching 150 runs in just 8.3 overs, setting a new world record for the fastest team to score 150 runs in a T20 match.

Hyderabad didn’t stop there. With a score of 158/4 at the end of 10 overs, they set another record for the highest score at the end of the powerplay in the IPL series, surpassing their own previous record of 148/2 against Mumbai earlier in the same season.

In the latter part of their innings, Nitish Reddy and Abdul Samad contributed valuable runs, with Samad remaining unbeaten on 59 off 29 balls. Hyderabad finished their innings with a mammoth total of 266/7 in 20 overs, setting yet another world record as the team to score 250+ runs three times in a T20 series.

Delhi’s Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, taking four wickets and helping to contain Hyderabad’s run flow towards the end.

Although Hyderabad narrowly missed the 300-run mark, their exceptional batting display and the two world records set during the match will be remembered as one of the highlights of the IPL 2024 season.
