In a thrilling encounter at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the home team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), emerged victorious against Rishabh Pant Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 47th league match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday.

Winning the toss, Rishabh Pant chose to bat first. However, his decision backfired as the Delhi Capitals struggled against the disciplined bowling attack of Kolkata Knight Riders. At the end of their innings, Delhi Capitals could only manage to score 153 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav top-scored for Delhi with 35 runs, while Rishabh Pant contributed 27 runs. The Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers, especially the spinners, took advantage of the pitch conditions after the powerplay to restrict the Delhi Capitals batting lineup.

Chasing a modest target of 154 runs for victory, Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen put up a splendid performance. They reached the target in just 14.3 overs, losing only three wickets in the process.

Phil Salt was the star performer for KKR, scoring a brilliant 68 runs, while captain Shreyas Iyer played a captain knock, contributing 33 runs to the team total.

Speaking about the victory, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. He said, “Looking at the last few matches, 200 runs is a normal target. So in this match, we thought of bowling with discipline. Accordingly, the pitch helped the spinners well after the powerplay. The bowlers of our team used it to stop the Delhi team. Then we managed to get the win easily with a good batting performance.”

However, Iyer also highlighted the absence of Sunil Narine from the team meetings, stating, “Sunil Narine does not attend batsman meetings in our team. Only Phil Salt would come to all the meetings and give his advice. But Sunil Narine never comes to the meeting, and I never invite him.”

On a positive note, Iyer praised the performance of Varun Chakravarthy, saying, “Similarly, Varun Chakravarthy has made a great comeback in this tournament. Even though he has not been at his best in the last few matches, he again displayed his quality bowling in this match, knowing the nature of the ground and showing very good bowling.”

With this victory, Kolkata Knight Riders have corrected their small mistakes and are now becoming stronger as they progress in the tournament.
