In a heart-stopping encounter, Delhi emerged victorious over Gujarat by just 4 runs in the 40th league match of the 2024 T20 cricket series on April 24. With this win, Delhi secured their fourth victory and climbed to the 6th position in the points table. Meanwhile, Gujarat slipped to the 7th position after suffering their 5th defeat in the league.

Batting first, Delhi put up a formidable total of 225 runs on the board. Captain Rishabh Pant played a stellar innings, scoring an unbeaten 88 runs, while Axar Patel contributed with 66 runs. However, apart from Pant and Patel, the rest of the batting lineup failed to make significant contributions. Captain Shubman Gill (6), Omarzai (1), Shah Rukh Khan (8), and Rahul dewatia (8) were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

In response, Gujarat struggled to chase down the target. Despite efforts from Sai Sudharsan (65), David Miller (55), and Sakha (39), they fell short by just 4 runs. Ras Salam and Kuldeep Yadav were the pick of the bowlers for Delhi, picking up 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

However, the match was not without its share of drama. During the match, a cameraman named Debasish found himself in harm’s way when a powerful six hit by Rishabh Pant went rogue and struck him, causing an injury. Pant immediately expressed his remorse and concern for Debasish, saying, “Sorry Debasish bhai. Didn’t hit you on purpose. But I think you will recover quickly. Congratulations for that.”

The video of Pant’s heartfelt apology, released by the IPL management on Twitter, has since gone viral, creating a sensation among fans.

Rishabh Pant, who had missed earlier matches due to a car accident, has made a remarkable comeback this year. Serving as the captain of the Delhi team once again, Pant has returned to his old form, scoring 342 runs in 9 matches and winning 2 man of the match awards. With his impressive wicket-keeping performance, he is now a strong contender for selection in the Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
