In a high-scoring encounter in the IPL 2024 T20 cricket series, Hyderabad emerged victorious against Delhi, registering their 5th win of the season. Hyderabad defeated Delhi by 67 runs in the 35th match of the series held on April 20, 2024.

Batting first, Hyderabad set a formidable target of 267 runs, scoring 266/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Travis Head led the charge with a scintillating 89 runs, while Abhishek Sharma contributed 46 runs and Sabash Ahmed added an unbeaten 59 to the total. Despite their efforts, Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the most successful bowler for Delhi, taking 4 wickets.

Delhi’s chase began on a disappointing note, with Prithivi Shah, David Warner, and Trishan Stubbs falling cheaply. The middle-order failed to capitalize on the start provided by the openers, and Delhi was eventually bowled out for 199 in 19.1 overs. The Hyderabad bowlers, led by Tamil Nadu player Natarajan, put up an impressive performance, with Natarajan claiming 4 wickets.

Travis Head, who was instrumental in Hyderabad’s victory with his explosive batting, was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant innings. However, despite his outstanding performance with the bat, Head humbly admitted that he was the “worst bowler” among all the bowlers who played in the match.

Speaking about his performance and the team’s success, Travis Head said, “We are on a winning streak. Our young players are playing well and enjoying themselves. When you are in good form, you just play very simply and react to the ball.”

He also praised his teammate Abhishek Sharma, saying, “Abhishek Sharma played well in the power play. He played aggressively against the spinners and did his job. It’s a pleasure to play alongside him.”

Reflecting on his own bowling, Head said, “I am a worse bowler than other bowlers. A lot of players in our team are bowling. So the challenge is to choose who will be the impact player. But we did a good job as a team tonight.”

Expressing his happiness at being back in T20 cricket and opening the innings for Hyderabad, Head said, “It gives me a good feeling to be back in T20 cricket and that too in the top order.”

Earlier in the match, Travis Head equaled Abhishek Sharma’s record of being the fastest half-century scorer for Hyderabad when he reached his fifty off just 16 balls.

With this victory, Hyderabad moved up to the 2nd place in the points table, further solidifying their position in the tournament.
