Rajasthan Royals faced a significant setback as Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa withdrew from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) due to personal reasons, as reported on Thursday. Zampa, a key player for the Royals, has cited personal reasons for his decision, leaving the team management with a crucial gap to fill in their bowling department.

Zampa, who was retained by Rajasthan Royals for 1.5 crore rupees ahead of last year’s auction, made the decision following a hectic season with the Australian team. His manager confirmed the development to ESPNCricinfo.

The right-arm spinner formed a crucial part of Rajasthan’s spin department alongside India’s Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. In the previous season, Zampa played six matches for the 2008 champions, securing eight wickets at an average of 23.50. Notably, he delivered a standout performance, claiming three wickets for 22 runs in Rajasthan Royals‘ victory against Chennai Super Kings.

Zampa’s withdrawal leaves Rajasthan Royals with a depleted bowling attack, compounded by the absence of fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. Krishna had undergone surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon in late February, ruling him out of this year’s IPL.

The absence of Zampa, coupled with Krishna’s injury, poses a challenge for Rajasthan Royals as they prepare for the upcoming IPL season. The team management may need to reconsider their bowling strategy and explore alternative options to fill the void left by Zampa’s departure.

With the IPL fast approaching, Rajasthan Royals will be looking to regroup and adapt to the unforeseen circumstances as they strive for success in the tournament.
