Rajasthan Royals faced a significant setback as Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa withdrew from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) due to personal reasons, as reported on Thursday. Zampa, who was retained by Rajasthan Royals for 1.5 crore rupees ahead of last year’s auction, made the decision following a hectic season with the Australian team. His manager confirmed the development to ESPNCricinfo.
The right-arm spinner formed a crucial part of Rajasthan’s spin department alongside India’s Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. In the previous season, Zampa played six matches for the 2008 champions, securing eight wickets at an average of 23.50. Notably, he delivered a standout performance, claiming three wickets for 22 runs in Rajasthan Royals‘ victory against Chennai Super Kings.
Zampa’s withdrawal leaves Rajasthan Royals with a depleted bowling attack, compounded by the absence of fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. Krishna had undergone surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon in late February, ruling him out of this year’s IPL.
